Why another UNIX-like OS?

I've always wanted to make an Operating System myself and quite liked the Workflow which POSIX offers. What I didnt like however was the heavy fragmentation which especially on Linux is a big issue where every Application has to a be compatible with dozens of different types of Core Utils, Desktop Environments, Init Systems, etc. The BSDs are (in my opinion) way better in that regard but are still missing many features a "modern" OS needs.
